Parabola's Spring 1982 issue:
Sleep
Sleep replenishes the energy necessary for ordinary life--we must sleep well in order to wake well--but unless some of the energy is contained, and reserved for another current of life, we might always live in sleep and never awaken. We are called to awaken, writes Mircea Eliade. He quotes from the Ginza, "Let him who hears wake from heavy sleep." And from a Mandaean text, "Slumber not nor sleep, and forget not that which thy Lord hath charged thee." --from the editorial Focus
